Alexander Scriabin - Valse, Op. 38 (Laul)

Peter Laul, pf Recorded in 2007 Alexander Scriabin was a Russian composer who lived from 1872-1915. His works are generally categorized in periods of early (Chopin-influenced), middle (a bridging period), and late (unique harmonic language). This work falls under his middle period. Scriabin was obsessed with mysticism and used his own “mystic scale” as a compositional technique that gives his late/middle works a sense of somewhere in between atonality and tonality. He was known for having synthesia (seeing colors when hearing sounds), which influenced his work. He started to create a grand multisensory work called The Mysterium towards the end of his life, but died of an infection before it was finished. His Op. 38 Valse was composed in 1903 Video Protected Under Fair Use Video Protected Under Fair Use
