Legendary tenor Carlo Bergonzi (1924-2014) sings the Aria di Chiesa, “Pietà, Signore“, from Act III of Niedermeyer’s 1837 opera Stradella. This aria was recorded as part of the tenor’s 1982 Christmas though it’s the farthest thing from a Christmas song that one could imagine. The Symphony of the Austrian Radio is conducted by Paul Angerer.
