“The batteries are delivering more power than a sportscar“ | Inside Alauda

In the second episode of Inside Alauda, Alauda Aeronautics’ Lead Systems Engineer Eric Freund analyses current progress on battery technology within the Alauda Mk3C Speeder eVTOL race vehicle destined for Airspeeder’s EXA Series Championship. Over the first months of 2022 Eric and team have successfully minimised weight in the battery containment structure and increased safety of the charge system through fire reduction methods. Race batteries now include two modules for redundancy in the system: to ensure ’flyability’ is maintained and safe landing is still possible in the event of system mishap. Huge amounts of energy must be discharged from the battery to the Mk3’s octocopter motors in order to generate the thrust needed for flight. Thus Eric will continue to lead development to further improve these battery systems to maximise race time in the air and minimise pitstop times. We also welcome and introduce Henri Nicholas as Head of Aerostructures at Alauda Aeronautics. Hailing from a Formula
