Stella – Michael Spyres in Offenbach: Les Contes d’Hoffmann (The Legend of Kleinzach)

Hoffmann is in love with three women – Olympia, Antionia, and Giulietta – and dreams about them in a bar. Loosely inspired by the cinematic universe of David Lynch, Stella is a short film conceived for the American tenor Michael Spyres. Internationally recognized as one of the greatest (bari)tenors of his generation, Michael Spyres played the role of the poet Hoffmann in Jacques Offenbach’s famous posthumous opera, Les Contes d’Hoffmann. In his album BariTenor released by Warner Classics & Erato, Michael Spyres performs the aria “The Legend of Kleinzach“ from the same opera. The film Stella aims to present this famous aria to a wider audience by using the codes of David Lynch’s aestheticism, inspired by his most famous works, from Mulholland Drive to Twin Peaks to Blue Velvet.
