Here I present a series of photographs, taken during the 1930s of the ancient and historic city of Kostroma located on the confluence of the Kostroma and Volga rivers...... During these years most of the city ’s churches were closed, destroyed and turned into other uses. Fortunately the Ipatyevsky Monastery survived, almost intact, with its 16th century walls, towers and belfry.....
