Jarnana - Albanian Song

Arrangement and male vocals by Farya Faraji, female vocals by Sumru Ağıryürüyen. This is a folk song from Albania, and its lyrics detail a conversation between two young lovers. Albanian traditional music is highly regional and diverse; some of it has a strong Eastern Mediterranean flavour with the use of the çifteli, the national Albanian instrument, while other styles are much closer to the wider, general sound of the Balkans, featuring accordions, clarinets, saxophones and percussions. With this arrangement, I chose to go with the latter style; a sort of general Balkanic arrangement built around the accordion, the clarinet and the kaval flute. Albanian music has many similarities with the music of the Balkans as a whole, including a great emphasis on polyphony, mostly in southern Albania.
