El Cumbanchero- Allen Shadd and Cody Kilby w/John Cowan

Once upon a time in what seems like a different lifetime ago, Cody and I would square off against each other in guitar contests. More often than not, Cody would give us all a whooping, but once in a while I would manage to get a good lick in. We both played this song in those days, albeit a good bit faster (maybe due to youth?). One of those times that I managed to get a win was at Merlefest playing this tune in 1998. A few months later in the same year I played rhythm guitar for Cody at Winfield Kansas and watched him win the National Flatpicking championship playing this same tune. We decided to sit down and give this one a spin, and with John Cowan keeping us honest to the tempo. I played a Collings CW MahA, and Cody is playing a Collings D2h-BA.
