Exploring Inside the SS United States - Ship Tour 2024

The SS United States is one of the most majestic ships ever built in America. Known for her sleek design, record-breaking speed, and as a symbol of mid-20th-century innovation and luxury in transatlantic travel, she is now at risk of being lost. With her future uncertain, I wanted to get on board to document parts of the ship for future generations to enjoy. This will be the first of three videos we filmed. The other two include a drone video (captured via our seagull) and a 360-degree video. A day before we boarded, the Conservancy that has been caring for the ship announced that the judge in this case had rejected their request to extend the ship’s stay by 90 days past the September 12 deadline. Instead, the judge stated that if the Conservancy enters into a contract to relocate the ship by September 12, they should negotiate in good faith for a safe and proper removal at a later date. With only a few weeks until the deadline, both parties are expected to return to court to discuss the progress of these plans. In terms of finding a new home for the SS United States, there are ongoing negotiations with two counties in Florida for the ship’s potential conversion into an artificial underwater reef, along with a land-based museum. The Conservancy has also raised funds to cover current expenses and potential tow costs, and it continues to work tirelessly to ensure that America’s Flagship is not lost to history. To support these efforts, the United States Conservancy has launched an urgent campaign to raise $500,000 to help cover the costs of the ship’s potential relocation and other critical expenses.
