This is what The Grateful Dead, Tie Dye, and Lithuanian Olympic Basketball all have in Common

The year was 1992 and the Lithuanian basketball team was in medal contention at the Barcelona Olympics. But the road to this achievement was a little bit bumpier than you would think. This team of basketball players are often referred to as “The Other Dream Team” It all began in 1990 when Lithuania broke away from the Soviet Union after being part of the USSR for over fifty years. This new country faced economic difficulties just keeping their heads above water, so funding for the Olympic team was a little hard to come by. So, the Lithuanian basketball star Sarunas Marciulionis who also played for the Golden Nuggets and who eventually would wind up in the NBA hall of fame went out and tried to find sponsors and donors he even donated part of his million-dollar salary from the nuggets to the fund Enter the Grateful Dead.
