Visit Visit our website This WWII film produced for aircraft and ground crews by the Boeing Company looks at how to weigh a B-29 Superfortress and how to perform load weight, center of gravity and balance calculations. The first part of the film shows technicians using a weight kit and jacks to take different readings of the weight of a B-29 Bomber. This is followed by the weight officer taking the different readings and using them to calculate the weight and moments in order to compute the basic index, which is needed for determining the center of gravity of the aircraft. The film highlights best practices for this such as removing any items that should not be there, zeroing weighing equipment, and keeping your equipment clean. 0:06 two B-29s flying, 0:14 technicians working on a B-29, 0:23 a technician taking inventory in the cockpit, 1:03 technicians checking hydraulics, 1:25 technicians setting up and using a mobile weight kit to check the weight of a B-29, 2:14 technician working on the braking system of the front landing gear, 3:13 engineers moving jacks into place under the aircraft, 3:31 jack cells being connected to electric cables, 3:46 technician operating the weight kit by zeroing the equipment, 4:52 technician attaching jacks to aircraft with another technician inspecting the work, 6:00 technicians checking the weight kit, 6:11 technicians uncovering and looking at the graduated scale to level the aircraft, 6:53 technicians in position begin jacking the aircraft simultaneously, 8:00 technicians correcting the leveling of the aircraft after inspecting the plumb bob, 8:59 technician operating the weight kit to see the weight of the aircraft nose, left wing, and right wing, 10:02 weight officer recording the weights on the weighing form and calculating the final weight, 10:45 technicians operating the jacks to lower the aircraft, 11:10 technician operating the weight kit to see if there are any inaccuracies in the weight readings, 12:07 technician packing up the weight kit and cleaning and oiling the weight cells, 13:18 the weight officer using the weight sheet to calculate the moments for the aircraft to find its center of gravity, 16:34 weight officer calculating the basic index on the weight sheet, 17:49 flight engineer calculating how to load the aircraft’s oil, fuel, crew, and expendable items on a sheet using a compartment slide, 20:46 technical crew and flight crew preparing for the take-off of a B-29, 21:32 close up of the flight crew, 22:11 produced by the Boeing Aircraft Company We encourage viewers to add comments and, especially, to provide additional information about our videos by adding a comment!
