Highland Laddie, Old Steps

A version of a traditional Scottish solo dance taught in 1920s by ’Dancie’ John Reid of Newtyle and published in the RSCDS St. Andrew’s Step Dance Collection, volume 2. 4 steps of this gentle feminine dance are performed here by Yulia Mityaeva, a Shady Glen Scottish dance school student from Moscow, Russia. Highland (Hielan) Laddie, named after a well-known Scottish tune, was introduced to Highland dance competitions as a dance for female competitors, rare at the time. Contemporary competitive version of this dance is totally different from the steps published here, though. Original tune is played by Keith Smith (violin) and Muriel Johnstone (piano).
