Water Clock Aka Replica Of Japanese Sic Water Clock (1969)

Ilford, London. John Combridge has an unusual hobby - he makes replicas of ancient clocks. We see Mr Combridge at work on one of these clocks. First he studies Chinese manuscripts for technical details. He had to learn Chinese at night school to help him with these ancient books. He is making a replica of a Chinese water clock that was around at the time of William the Conqueror. First he made a model - a copy of which is in the possession of the Science Museum. He is now making a half size replica of the clock which was smashed and lost to posterity during the time of the Sung dynasty. Various shots of the workings of the clock which will eventually be in the possession of the Liverpool city museum.
