Paddington, London.
Nice little film about a themed restaurant which aims to take its diners back to the age of Charles Dickens. I believe the restaurant is called “Our Mutual Friend.“ Two diners collect a newspaper at the entrance of the restaurant - date on the paper is 1864. Various shots of the interiors of the restaurant which is in the cellar of a Paddington pub.
Waiter brings up the menus which are inside the flyleaf of a Dickens novel. Diners select their meal. There is a pretend butcher’s shop inside the restaurant - it is “T. Martin“ the butcher from Pickwick Papers. Steaks are placed on the grill. There are signs for a Todd and Toggs Pie Shop and a reconstruction of the “Old Curiosity Shop“. The bar is made to look like an old fashioned liquor shop featured in “A Tale of Two Cities“.
Characters from the West End show based on “Oliver Twist“ walk into the restaurant. Fagin and Nancy chat and laugh. Other Dickens characters are seen including Mr Bumble and Mrs Corney.
