DR Congo Tells Apple to Cease & Desist using “Blood Minerals“ in iPhones | Vantage with Palki Sharma
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has issued a notice to Apple. The DRC has formally asked the iPhone maker to cease & desist. The country says that Apple is using “Blood Minerals“ from the DRC in its products. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is mineral rich, and it has an abundance of Tin, Tungsten and Tantalum. These three minerals are used in the manufacturing of phones. But the minerals are found in conflict zones. Various armed groups control vast swathes of territory in the Eastern DRC, and they force the local Congolese population to mine the resources. So the resources that the western companies are using, are often stained with the blood of innocent Congolese people.
