Kila - Gwertzy

It was early on in 1997. We had just released Tóg é go Bog é and we were running around the country doing gigs everywhere. Our manager at the time Mark French wanted a video to help push the album! Donal Dineen and Donal Scannell had ’No Disco’ on the go on RTÉ and they had aired our ’Odlums’ Wild Oats’ video and so we thought we could get a new video played on tv. I don’t know who came up with the concept and story - probably a mix of Dee and Robbie Ryan. They both lived on Great Denmark Street at the time along with a good crew of graduates from the film course in the film school in Dún Laoghaire. Margo Barrow is the angry immeasurably tall Ice Queen firing ice punishment at those who crossed her angry path, from her long red finger nails! Old collaborator of our’s Tom Meskell was the poor-put-upon-puppet and Tracey Mc Verry was the pixie come to release and save the puppet with her sparkling scissors and smile! Robbie directed and filmed the video and it was so much fun to do even if we got turned into a frozen mush - it was the only time I played the fiddle, albeit a toy plastic one!! The special effects were done in Nicky Ryan’s (Robbie’s cousin) studio and I think Dee did the costumes (but I’m sure she had help from each of the actors)! The Ice Queen needs to make a comeback! She has been too cold for too long!!
