Battle B2 (Shoji Meguro Rock PS2 Remix) | Shin Megami Tensei IV

This is a cover of Battle B2 by Ryota Kozuka from Shin Megami Tensei IV. I have remade the track in the style of Shoji Meguro’s rock battle tracks around the PS2 era of SMT games, as if Shin Megami Tensei IV released on the PS2 and this track was composed by Meguro. Hands down one of the biggest fan favourite tracks in the franchise, one of mine as well and for good reason, it’s incredible. I’ve gotten plenty of requests for this one and it was kind of intimidating! Unlike my other remixes which were originally composed by Meguro or done in a similar enough compositional style, this one kind of sticks out. It is quite obviously made by Ryota Kozuka, which is always a good thing, that man knows how to make a battle track. That means however that simply swapping instruments wouldn’t be enough to give it a Meguro sound. But I also didn’t want to drastically change the most important elements of the track, notably the bells and guitar solo, neither of which are very Meguro. But I would be doing a disservice to this track if I didn’t get the bells right, and I think I made the right choice. I took the most liberties with the last section, taking plenty of inspiration from tracks like Master of Shadow and Darkness from Persona 3. Of course, Meguro’s signature guitar tone is always the most important element of these remixes, for a more detailed breakdown of how I recreated it, I’d advise checking out the description for the cover of An Honour Befitting That Name I made here: Alongside that is the use of piano, background strings, some organ and clean guitar with plenty of delay. No trumpets this time! Not Raidou enough. I heard the feedback with the last cover, don’t worry! I’ve toned down the drums a bit this time, particularly the snare. I hope you enjoy the remix, Shin Megami Tensei IV is one of my favourites alongside its soundtrack, and I hope I’ve done them both some justice.
