The Origins of the Seven Deadly Sins

Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy and Pride. Together they make up the Seven Deadly Sins. But where do they come from, what are there origins? In this video, we’ll explore the origin and history of the Seven Deadly Sins ( sometimes also known as the Seven Cardinal Sins or Vices), as well as the concept of sin at large. You may be surprise to learn that they do not come from the Bible - well, not as a strict list as we now have it. They may have come from an Egyptian monk, known as Evagrius of Pontus and taken up by Pope Gregory I. But they certainly gained traction after Dante’s Divine Comedy, notably Inferno and Purgatorio. I really hope you enjoy watching this video. with another algorithm spike, things have been really stirring on the channel lately, so welcome all new subscribers. We’re at 149k now, absurd!
