1979 Stanley Cup Finals game #1 Rangers at Canadians

The 1979 NY Rangers storybook playoff run reached its pinnacle with an opening game 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadians at the old Forum. Similar to game one of the semi-finals vs the Islanders, the Rangers built up their lead in the first two periods. By the midway point, the Habs fans simply can’t believe what they are seeing, and the Forum gets so quiet at times (except for a few boos) you would think this was a regular season game, and not a Stanley Cup Finals game. But the Canadians would rebound in game two, and win the series in five games. It was later revealed that Ranger goalie John Davidson played the series hurt, which didn’t help things at all. I’ve noticed that on some of the saves he makes, he seems to be reaching back to grab the crossbar, in order to take pressure off of his knees. Nearly complete game shown here on one post.
