The Iron is lifted straight from the left side of Pettyjohn’s versatile Pettydrive, eschewing the preamp circuit and delivering sweet, musical low gain overdrive. The singular Iron overdrive was redesigned as an always-on harmonic enhancement tool, and features an extended tonal range to give players more treble. Three carefully-curated clipping options are selectable with a toggle switch: asymmetrical silicon for tube-like response, red LED for a more open sound and MOSFET clipping for a smoother clipping. The Clip switch is highly interactive with the Gain knob, and each clipping arrangement is voiced for different parts of the knob’s travel. A Low Cut switch couples with the high-cut Tone knob for some ultra-precise voicing that ensures the Iron Drive plays nice with your amp. A helpful Mix control ranges from 100 percent drive to 60 percent, giving a much more musical palette than any other drive’s mix knob, by allowing players to fine-tune the drive output, while the Iron has an internal voltage doubler for up to 36 volts of headroom. And like all Pettyjohn pedals, the Iron is hand-made using premium-quality parts, such as Burr-Brown op-amps, orange drop and WIMA capacitors and high-quality resistors.
