This is a direct consequence of the sanctions that have been put on China by the United States. However, the country did exclude several South Korean chip manufacturers, including Samsung Electronics, from these regulations. Companies in South Korea that deal in semiconductors, such as Samsung Electronics, have recently approached the United States government with a request to be granted a “indefinite exemption“ from export rules regarding China. In light of the tensions between the United States and China, this would assist alleviate some of the pressure that is being placed on these enterprises. Samsung is looking for a significant exemption from the United States. Because of this exemption, they will be able to continue shipping equipment built in the United States to the firms they own in China. This move would also go a great way toward lessening the burden of licensing since US exporters will be able to ship allowed commodities to approved companies under a broad authorization, rather than needing to see several specific export licenses.
