Dark Souls: Ash Lake (scenic tour)

Captured on PS3. I launched an “NG “ just to capture one of my favorite places in Dark Souls. As you know, the game takes place in the undead city of Lordran, a dead and static world of eternal suffering which you are tasked to destroy or revive. At one point, in the underground caverns of Blighttown, you can swipe away at a wall to reveal a hidden room with a treasure chest. If you swipe away at the wall beyond the chest, you’ll reveal a twisted vertical labyrinth of roots & branches which the game calls “The Great Hollow“. And as you descend further and further down this seemingly bottomless structure, your mind races at how such an ominous path existed beyond an innocuous hidden chest room. You eventually emerge from a great, dead tree on to an endless horizon of black water-- the literal bottom of Dark Souls’ world. It’s then you realize the entire city of Lordran sits upon the great tree, and the world beyond is as bleak as the one you are attempting to destroy. The massive tree trunks that fill the foggy horizon leave you wondering if there are other Lordrans out there.
