In this video, master whittler Joel Nokelainen makes a wooden bird, fan bird. He only uses a knife in his work. Joel has been whittling around the world for about 60 years, and has also written a couple of books on the subject. Joel learned this skill from his father, who learned it from a Russian prisoner of war in the 1920s.
