The Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), commonly referred to as the SAS, is an elite special forces unit within the nation’s army. Established in 1957, this distinguished regiment drew inspiration from the UK’s SAS and adopted the renowned motto, “Who Dares Wins.“ Based in Swanbourne, a suburb of Perth in Western Australia, the SASR calls Campbell Barracks its home and operates under the direct authority of the Special Operations Command. With a storied history, the SASR has participated in missions across Borneo, Vietnam, Somalia, East Timor, Iraq, and Afghanistan, in addition to numerous peacekeeping efforts. As part of their wide-ranging responsibilities, the SASR also serves as a counter-terrorism force, playing a crucial role in domestic security operations throughout Australia.
