Skis For Export (1961)

Various M/Ss of Lowestoft, Suffolk: a fishing boat coming into harbour; the harbour with various boats moored; high angle shot of lots of people on bikes followed by cars crossing a swing bridge near a fish restaurant; traffic going around the bend of the fish restaurant street. High angle L/S as the swing bridge starts to move round as commentator tells us the bridge lies between the inner and outer harbours; we see a fishing trawler passing through. Commentator talks of the history of this fishing town, then says “What is unexpected is a new industry among men used to building boats - making skis! And even more remarkable, they’ll soon be exported to Switzerland!“ as we see M/Ss and C/Us of a man making skis; matching lengths of wood, fixing red plastic covers to them and planing off one side of the ski on a machine on his workbench.
