True Detective - An Answer to Pessimism

I loved True Detective... especially the character of Rust Cohle. I can’t remember the last time I was so fascinated by a person’s inner suffering than when I watched Colonel Kurtz in Apocalypse Now. The only thing that I don’t really like is how some people hold up Rust as a justification of pessimist philosophy... because the show actually repudiates this philosophy (especially at the end).
