Enrico Caruso - Tu non mi vuoi più ben (AICC, 1903)

During the month of August, Dead Tenors’ Society is honoring the memory of the great Italian tenor Enrico Caruso (1873-1921). A selection of “Desert Island Discs“ will be showcased, giving an example of the Caruso recordings that I cannot live without. You may have your own is one of mine. Caruso was not only a great operatic stage artist, he was a very effective singer of songs. One of his earliest representations of song literature on disc is this recording of “Tu non mi vuoi più ben“, a popular song by celebrated basso-buffo Antonio Pini-Corsi. This title was long thought to have been the tenor’s first recording, made in 1900. In actuality, it is Caruso’s 28th recording (following the G&T and Zonophone records) made for the Anglo-Italian Commerce Company in October of 1903.
