This is a single cell ciliate in the genus Frontonia. It’s full of multicolored algae and cyanobacteria it has ingested. A long strand of cyanobacteria is at right. The ciliary rows are obvious, as well as the clear circular macronucleus within the cell. These cells often contain algae that I do not see in the samples, making them better hunters than I. Collected from a freshwater Florida spring off a microbial mat and viewed with 200X DIC.
