Longing: You are not alone

There’s a concept in cognitive science that is widely known, befriending our shadow selves in order to find our way towards a more wholesome existence. Longing beautifully explores the types of relationship we can have no only with one another, but with the wilder aspects of ourselves, where all of our shadows reside and grow. Mastery of ourselves does not imply a tyranny of control and violence, it doesn’t imply a meek submission in order to avoid aggression. Mastery of ourselves seems to be more about harmony and understanding than anything else. What do our souls long for? our individual existence, through which we experience the universe at large, seems to have the purpose of the acquisition of knowledge, collectively.
