On June 3rd, 1991, Kyushu, Japan, a tsunami of ash and rock descended at over 100 mph from the peak of Mount Unzen consuming everything in its path. #WernerHerzog directs A Requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft; French volcanologists and filmmakers who died filming on Mount Unzen in June 1991 in a pyroclastic flow. Forty three people were killed, including journalists and local fire and rescue teams. Also killed were #MauriceKrafft and #KatiaKrafft, the legendary French volcanologists who filmed volcanoes and risked their lives to shoot the most spectacular eruptions of the 20th century.
