Phil Lewis of LA Guns joined me for a talk about the band’s new album, “Checkered Past,“ his upbringing amidst London’s 1970s rock scene (encountering people like Razzle of Hanoi Rocks), his early bands Girl and Torme, joining LA Guns during the height of the Sunset Strip’s power, having the band’s success stalled by personal behavior (including an affair between Kelly Nickels and Motley Crue singer Vince Neil’s wife) and grunge, (only to see his daughter become dear friends with Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love’s daughter Frances Bean!), getting a day job and reigniting his music career.
