The Origins of Genesis and It’s Mythology It’s no secret that Genesis takes inspiration from older myths about Creation and the flood. In fact, you could say that the authors of Genesis were the ultimate hipsters - taking something old and making it new again. But while they may have put their own spin on things, it’s hard to deny that there are some striking similarities between Genesis and earlier tales. It’s almost as if they were trying to say, “Hey, we know this story has been done before, but we’re going to do it better.“ And whether or not they succeeded in that goal, one thing is for sure - they definitely knew how to make a splash.
