Exit North – Your Story Mine

The new album from Exit North came out earlier this year (2023) and is just beautiful, dark and thought provoking (‘Anywhere, Still’). I saw ‘The Red House’ (1947) recently and although it’s not a ghost film it is a haunting. The version I managed to find is a rather poor quality but I decided to use that as part of the texture and, in places, enhance or use it (other versions do exist, see my film playlist). Thomas Feiner’s deep vocals seems to fit perfectly with the stormy wilderness. The actors that appear are Lon McCallister, Allene Roberts and Edward G. Robinson and the movie is seen as a Film Noir. Robinson is by turn fatherly, tender and frightening, and I really enjoyed his performance. Some of the photography and lighting in the film is just wonderful and gloomy. If you haven’t seen it and like old B&W films, it does have its charms.
