First official joint act of Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía alone

Future Queen of Spain, Princess Leonor and the Infanta Sofía, participated in the act of the European Program UnÁrbolporEuropa which means A tree for Europe, co-organized by the Office of the European Parliament in Spain and the European Team association to raise awareness about the fight against climate change. The act consisted of planting some trees in Madrid’s protected natural area of Hayedo de Montejo, in which young people participated: the majority between 14 and 16 years old from different countries of the European Union and from the Ambassador Schools, although there were also older youths responsible for the UnArbolPorEuropa initiative. The fight against climate change is one of the priorities of the European Union, which has been marked with the approval of the European Green Pact as one of the main milestones of this legislature, and in which the commitment of the Royal House coincides with environmental issues. A Tree for Europe (in Spanish, Un Árbol Por Europa) is a manifesto which was created by Equipo Europa following a proposal by David Sassoli, President of the European Parliament. In this manifesto, all participating mayors are committed to: • Plant a tree in their town • Give visibility to sustainable development at the local level • Involve young people in decision-making processes regarding local sustainability • With the close collaboration of the Office of the European Parliament in Spain, the campaign has managed to get 610 Spanish municipalities to join, which have already planted more than 25,000 trees. In addition to the plantation, the municipalities that join the initiative are committed to making visible the importance of sustainable development at the local level and involving young people in decision-making processes regarding local sustainability. ........................................................................................
