The best of Adolf von Henselt - Reclusive Romantic
Yet another forgotten legend of the romantic era was German composer Adolph von Henselt (1814-1889). His music is especially dark in tone and thick in texture, somewhat like an early Brahms. It is said he had a large influence on the later Russian composers. Rachmaninoff held him in high regard. “Find out the secret of Henselt’s hands,“ Franz Liszt said, describing his mastery of legato as the work of “velvet paws“. Indeed, this effect features prominently in his work. Included here is his piano concerto, which is of a fiendish scale technique and music-wise, rivalling the likes of Rachmaninoff’s 3rd and Brahms’ 2nd. Hopefully this playlist will help revive interest in this criminally underrated talent.
I don’t own anything here - this is a collection of music from videos already previously posted on YouTube.
