Huge Rough Ethiopian Opals!

I attended the Nipomo Gem and mineral show a few days ago. There was a merchant way in the back corner that had some of the biggest chunks of ethiopian rough that I’d seen in a long time! Some of these large ones are over 200 grams (1000 carats)! I DID ask for permission to shoot this video and was granted it. I sifted through these stones for almost an hour. Here is a very short highlight of some of these stones. At the end of the video I show off the opal I selected. Buying rough like this is always a huge gamble. Even though I’ve been doing this for years, This opal could still crack on me and put a serious dent in my investment.
