FSB detains three foreigners for terrorist conspiracy in Stavropol, Russia

The suspects were allegedly preparing a bomb attack in the southern region of Stavropol. Report from the news portal on March 29, 2024. Russia’s domestic intelligence agency, the Federal Security Service (the FSB), claimed to have foiled a terrorist plot in the country’s southern Stavropol region, detaining three suspects, all citizens of a yet-to-be-named Central Asian state. The agency announced the operation in a brief statement on Friday and released images showing the surveillance and arrest of suspects by heavily armed agents. “The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation prevented the terrorist activities of three citizens of one of the Central Asian nations, who planned a terrorist act, seeking to detonate an explosive in a place of mass gatherings in the Stavropol region,” the agency said. The suspects were found in possession of chemical ingredients to create a homemade explosive device, as well as a large quantity of screws and nails, intended to serve as prefabricated shrapnel. The agency has launched a criminal investigation into the suspects, with the three foreigners now facing terrorism charges. If found guilty, they could face up to 20 years in prison. The announcement comes after the deadly terrorist attack on the Crocus City music venue on the outskirts of Moscow last Friday. The attack claimed the lives of at least 144 people, with more than 200 injured. The four suspects, who were detained by Russian authorities while trying to flee to Ukraine, were citizens of Tajikistan. Source:
