Benjamin Orr, born Benjamin Orzechowski on September 8, 1947, in Lakewood, Ohio, was an American musician, singer, and songwriter best known as the bassist and co-lead vocalist of the rock band The Cars. He also had a successful solo career and made notable contributions to the music industry.
Orr’s musical journey began in the 1960s when he formed his first band, The Grasshoppers, in Ohio. In the early 1970s, he relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, where he joined forces with Ric Ocasek to form The Cars. The band’s unique blend of new wave, rock, and pop music garnered them widespread recognition and commercial success.
As a member of The Cars, Orr played a crucial role in shaping their sound and success.
