La Paloma / Mexico 1864 - 1867

THIS VIDEO AND ALL ITS CONTENT IS MADE FOR INFORMATIONAL AND EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY As a Mexican citizen myself, I have started a project where I try to recreate different periods and specific years of Mexican history. In this video, you will see a representation of Mexico between 1864 – 1867. Among other things you will see Maximilian of and his wife Charlotte at Chapultepec Castle which is located on top of Cerro Chapultepec in México City’s Chapultepec Park. The song “ La Paloma ‘’ by composer José Iradier was the most performed song on stage during Maximilian’s empire. The nostalgia of its lyrics and the cadence of its rhythm completely surrendered Charlotte. Soprano Conchita Méndez made it popular at the request of the empress and soon won over the public.
