Preferably make the trip on the very popular Goldenpass line which runs along the lake and connects Interlaken and Zurich. Or take the row boat on Lake Brienz. It will glide past picturesque villages, tumultuous waterfalls and charming landscapes. The typical chalet village of Brienz with its long quay is surrounded by opulent meadows, forests and glades which are overlooked by imposing rock walls. Here you can appreciate the perfect harmony between the mountains and the lake. Once in Brienz, you can stroll along the lakeside promenade. In winter too, there is no need to give up swimming. You can warm up at one of the Hotpots in a wintry setting. Going around the village, you will discover the picturesque old village with its chalets and typical wooden houses. Brienz is located in a delightful mountain landscape on the eastern side of Lake Brienz with its turquoise waters. This pretty village is the starting point for excursions in the Bernese Oberland, to the Ballenberg open-air museum, but also to Lucerne, Interlaken or even the nearby Alpine passes. Description Arguably the most romantic part of Brienz is the Brunngasse, which is well known across borders as it has been honored to be the “prettiest street in Europe”. Most of the houses in this lane date back to the 18th century and are adorned with wood carvings. Brienz is renowned for its woodcarvers and has a long tradition in woodworking, to the point of still having a woodcarving school and a luthiers school today. Winter Winter sports enthusiasts will find their happiness at the neighboring Axalp, a small snow sports area away from the tourist bustle and well suited to families with Axiland, where children can learn about skiing and snowboarding while playing. More demanding winter sports enthusiasts can get to the Meiringen-Hasliberg ski area quickly and easily. Summer The pedestrian promenade along the lake, lined with small jetties and playgrounds, is perfect for strolling. In summer, locals and visitors happily frequent the swimming spots. The view of the lake, with its rich and varied activities, offers an exceptional spectacle. You can also indulge in nautical pleasures, for example on the “Lötschberg” paddle steamer with its historic lounge. The landing stage in Brienz is only a few meters from the two train stations: Brienz is located on the narrow-gauge railway line that connects the famous holiday destinations Interlaken, Meiringen-Hasliberg, Brünig, Lucerne and Engelberg. The second small station houses the lower station of the cogwheel steam train which leads to the summit of the Brienz Rothorn, a hiking paradise with a superb panorama.
