This 1975 NASA video highlights the development of LAser GEOdynamics Satellite (LAGEOS I) developed at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. LAGEOS I is a passive satellite constructed from brass and aluminum and contains 426 individual precision reflectors made from fused silica glass. The mirrored surface of the satellite was designed to reflect laser beams from ground stations for accurate ranging measurements.
