The song we listen to is “The train leaves at 8”, composed by Mikis Theodorakis and sung by Haris Alexiou and Dimitra Galani. Τhe lyrics come from the Greek poet Manos Eleftheriou. The reason why I decided to translate it is Julie, an American who strangely adores not just Greece. She adores Thessaloniki. What’s more, when I discovered that this song had been also covered by Walkabouts, I made her listen to it. And Julie said she preferred the original version in Greek.
