Chopping Two Squiers In Half To Build A Double Neck Bass/Guitar
For my first ever electric guitar build I decided to prototype a double neck bass/guitar, i.e. a 4 6, by chopping up and combining a Squier Stratocaster and a Squier Mini Precision Bass. I managed to reuse all the original hardware and electronics to get it playing including the original pickguards. The only new hardware is a stereo 1/4“ jack so that the guitar and bass signals are kept separate and can be run through different effects chains.
The final playable weight is 9 pounds 5 ounces (4224g), with a maximum body width of 15 1/4“. I worked hard to keep the body as small and light as possible (it’s not uncommon for a double neck to be 12 pounds and 18“ wide). I also focused a lot on ergonomics to make it comfortable to play and to keep the controls and layout simple, including moving the jack to the back.
