Fever Tree - San Francisco Girls (1968)

In 1968 this was a summer favorite despite not rising very high on the U.S. national charts. Up against songs destined to be rock classics like “Born To Be Wild,“ “Journey To The Center Of The Mind,“ and “Sky Pilot,“ the Fever Tree’s “San Francisco Girls“ nevertheless offered a unique psychedelic sound never before heard nor ever since. Beautiful and trippy, this song may well have been the very first foray into “trance music“ ... you could achieve a state of euphoria just listening to it. I know I certainly did. It should have been on the Top 10 in my opinion. Although the song is about the girls of San Francisco during the years 1967 and 1968, the lyrical narrative seems to be about a guy breaking up with his girlfriend because he is sick of their lifestyle and wants to get back to the simplicity and good times in The Bay area. I have always been too focused on the music to notice this fact, but it would explain why the song is subtitled “Re
