Powerful M6.2 earthquake forced thousands to flee in La Serena, Chile Natural disaster 7 September 2023. An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 struck the Gulf of Tongoi off the coast of central Chile around 20:48 on September 6. The epicenter was located about 48 km south-southwest of La Serena in the Coquimbo region. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 41 km and moderate shaking was likely felt throughout central Chile.
