Y Mabinogi is a medieval story colleccion where the main 4 parts are of celtic heathen origin, so older then the times they were written down. These 4 branches, as they are called, have characters in common. They belong to the same world. They have magic or even surreal mysterious elements in common, but are not directly interrealated. The 4 live action characters in the film, have problems of the world of today, en somewhere in their tale, fall in the water and end up as animation characters, each in their own part of the 4 branches of the Y Mabinogi. You could look the 4 tales up in wikipedia, or elsewhere. It will improve your apprecation of the animation
