@AllisonRussell took the stage to play songs from her Grammy-winning album, The Returner. “For me, music has always been medicine,” folk singer Allison Russell told CBC Music before her concert at the Danforth Music Hall. The Grammy-winner sang, clapped, played clarinet, and strummed the banjo during her vibrant, cathartic show with her women-backed band, the Rainbow Coalition. “It’s every single person who believes in the harm-reduction principles of anti-bigotry, mutual care and beloved community,” she said, describing the group. She kicked things off with “Springtime,” a sunny track from her most recent album, The Returner. Between songs, Russell spoke passionately about coming together, making the Earth a better place and the enduring power of hope.
