Chinese Railways - Start up of freshly overhauled DF 东风 2026 diesel at Kunming copper smelter (YTTL)

Footage taken of Qishuyan DF 2026 at Kunming’s copper smelter on duty after one of the company’s DF7G’s was out of service. At the time of recording, this was one of two DF’s left operational in China and the only Qishuyan type. Far fewer of these were built than the Dalian style and they can be easily identified by the cowling around the main headlight. Not only did I find the locomotive working, but she had also been completely overhauled as well including a stunning new shiny paint job. At the time of writing, it has been rumoured that it will remain in service only for a few more weeks, despite original plans of serving for at least five years after the overhaul.
