Plot In London, the Canadian Richard Hannay meets, at the end of a very strangely interrupted musical performance, a young lady, Annabella Smith, who claims to be being pursued. He agrees to hide her at his home, where she is murdered. Fearing being accused, he understands that he will only be able to prove his innocence of this murder if he becomes involved in a spy intrigue. He only has two clues, a phrase she told him about a secret society “the 39 steps“ and the name of a place in Scotland. he decides to go where the missing woman was supposed to go, in the Highlands. And he is pursued by this mysterious criminal society mentioned by the victim, and by the police. On the way, on the train, he meets Pamela, a blonde who first plans to hand him over to the authorities before helping him.
