God Save The Queen - 1:58:13 This is version two of my Earl’s Court video remaster. I started from scratch again and matched to nearly ALL the high quality bits we have (some official clips that have heavy artificial color grading weren’t made as extreme). I also realized that on V1 the frame rate got botched somewhere down the line, this time around isn’t the case. I also switched the audio to use the VCD audio, and from there I did some EQing, added some slight reverb (new engine not used in any of my remasters), and tamed the harsh S’s with slight de-esser. Uploaded in 4k to preserve quality as much as possible. Youtube’s new “enhanced bitrate“ feature they added (which I hope is an option for this video) unfortunately cut the bitrate of standard youtube videos by a noticeable amount, my guess is by like 1/4th or 1/5th. I highly recommend you download the lossless version if you’re a fan of the show, as the difference is night and day: A LOT of work was put into this video. The base uses Chief Mouse’s 2018 remaster, but I had only a couple issues with it. The first issue was that there is a weird dithering/screen door effect that although added texture, didn’t seem necessary. The second issue was that much like some of the other bootlegs of the show, the video was very oversharpened, adding a black halo around any edges. Those two aspects of the remaster made it noticeably different compared to officially released and bootleg show content. So first, I used a very light layer of AI to process out the dithering effect as well as the oversharpening. As controversial as this sounds, I tweaked the settings to make sure it didn’t completely fabricate any overly sharp edges or extra details that weren’t there originally, which many people using AI for video typically do (in turn ruining the video). I only targeted the dithering and oversharpening which resulted in the quality being increased significantly. My main goal was to make the quality comparable to the masters, which are a pretty clean 480p (or 525i). After that, I did SEVERAL layers of color correction to the video. I initially ended up with 17 different layers. I then quickly realized that of the several officially released clips from the show, a single color correction can’t match them all -- although I got very close. To combat that, I constantly changed the color correction settings throughout the show. It should pretty much match every piece of officially released content currently known, except for clearly color graded clips like Death On Two Legs. I also used other tools with Final Cut Pro X to help out with the tape quality. I didn’t merge any of the official clips with the show, I just wanted to restore the video feed itself.
