◾Dogfight [Operation] Korsun/on the Right Bank of Ukraine (Dnieper-Carpathian operation) realistic mode/ combat rating 8.7 ◾Historical background: The Korsun-Shevchenko operation (also Korsun-Shevchenko Battle, Korsun-Shevchenko boiler, Korsun boiler, Cherkasy boiler], Cherkasy encirclement) was an offensive operation of the troops of the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts, conducted on January 24 - February 17, 1944 with the aim of destroying the Korsun-Shevchenko Wehrmacht grouping. It is part of the strategic offensive of Soviet troops in Right-Bank Ukraine (Dnieper-Carpathian operation). The operation ended with the elimination of the boiler and the partial defeat of the encircled group (34% of the Wehrmacht soldiers died), some of the troops managed to escape from the encirclement. The commander of the encircled group, General Stemmerman, died during the breakthrough on the night of February 17-18.
